Town Square
Final Major Project
For my final major project for university, I created a town square scene inspired architecturally by Edinburgh and Stamford, with an Overwatch-esque art style in Unreal Engine 4.
Functionality
It's a small town of a fantasy setting, acting as the player's hub and safe area. It has mostly businesses and houses but also features a large bank and a library building.
Optimisation
The entire scene has a 1024/m² texel density. The target platform for this environment is PS4/Xbox One, with optimised mesh density and built lighting. Shader complexity and visual effects are kept minimal.
Texture Work
This project had quite a focus on material work, something I think was lacking in some of my previous projects. Standouts include the cobbled path texture and the brick textures used on the walls of the bank and library building.
Lighting
I'm very happy with how the lighting turned out, as it was something that had many different iterations and versions. For this scene, I wanted to create a very inviting atmosphere as my previous projects have been a bit horror-oriented.
