Why remake an old project?

I originally made my haunted ballroom scene as a university project and I think it was quite successful in its concept and 'vibes' but is not a good reflection of my current skillset and level of quality so I chose this project to update using my new skills as an environment artist.

What are the aims?

For this project I want to show off how I have improved in areas of texturing, material authoring and modelling. The lighting and mood will remain largely similar to the original as I feel they held up quite well, but I will also be looking for new ways to mix the scene up a bit to fit my original vision better.
